How TaxRedact Works
Secure, AI-powered document redaction in four simple steps
1. Upload Your Document
Simply drag and drop your tax return PDF or click to upload. We accept all standard tax forms including 1040, W-2, 1099, K-1, and more. Files up to 50MB are supported, and your document is encrypted immediately upon upload.
2. AI Analysis
Our advanced AI scans every page of your document, identifying sensitive information including Social Security Numbers (SSN), Employer Identification Numbers (EIN), phone numbers, dates of birth, bank account numbers, and routing numbers. The AI understands tax form layouts and can detect data even in scanned documents with OCR artifacts.
3. Review & Select
Review all detected sensitive data before redaction. Each finding shows the type, value, and location in your document. SSNs are selected for redaction by default, but you have full control to select or deselect any item. You can verify exactly what will be redacted before proceeding.
4. Pay & Receive
Complete your secure payment through Stripe. Once processed, your redacted document is generated with true PDF redaction (not just black boxes - the text is actually removed from the file). Download directly or receive it via email with a secure link that expires after 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is my data secure?
Yes. Your documents are encrypted using AES-256 encryption both in transit and at rest. Files are automatically deleted from our servers after 48 hours. We never store your documents longer than necessary to complete the redaction.
What's the difference between true redaction and black boxes?
Many PDF tools simply draw black rectangles over sensitive text, but the underlying data remains in the file and can be extracted. TaxRedact performs true redaction, which permanently removes the text from the PDF's content stream. The data cannot be recovered.
Does it work with scanned documents?
Yes. TaxRedact uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to detect text in scanned documents. For best results, ensure your scans are clear and pages are right-side up.
How much does it cost?
Pricing is based on the number of pages in your document. You'll see the exact price after uploading your document and before payment. There are no hidden fees or subscriptions.
